FAQ

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Nebraska Synod of the ELCA.

We believe that we are saved by the grace of God alone, through faith. Our sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, who died to redeem us. The Bible is the only norm of doctrine and life–the only true standard by which teachings and doctrines are to be judged.

New member classes are offered regularly. If you are interested in membership, check the box on the membership card in your bulletin and drop it in the offering plate, speak to one of our pastors, or contact the Church Office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org.

We encourage all members to regularly attend worship, grow in faith through our faith formation opportunities, serve God by following in the example of Jesus Christ, and return a portion of their time, talents, and treasure to the church.

In keeping with the practice of the ancient Church, baptism is the usual pre-requisite for receiving Communion. All baptized Christians (even children) are invited to the altar. Holy Communion is offered weekly at all four services — Saturday at 5 PM Sunday at 9 AM and 11 AM, and Wednesday at 12:15 PM.

Our typical form of Holy Communion is by intinction, whereby you receive the consecrated wafer in your hand and dip it into the wine. On occasion, we also serve Holy Communion at the altar railing. The ushers will provide instructions during the service.

Parents make the decision, in consultation with the pastors, on when their children are ready to begin receiving Holy Communion. If your child is ready, please contact one of the pastors or the church office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org. Although not required, we offer First Communion classes several times each year.

If you are planning a wedding, please contact our Wedding Coordinator Debbie Robinson at 402-341-7761 for more information.

Baptismal seminars are offered regularly throughout the year. If you are anticipating a Baptism or if you would like to become Baptized, please speak to a pastor or contact the church office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org for more information.

You can help us beautify the altar by donating altar flowers, the eternal candle, or the television broadcast each week. Donating altar flowers, the eternal candle, or sponsoring a television broadcast is a simple and meaningful way to honor a loved one who has passed away, celebrate a special anniversary or milestone, or can be given in honor or thanksgiving for friends or family. Their names will appear in the church bulletin on the weekend you select.

The Altar Flower and Eternal Candle sign-ups are located in the Narthex, just before you enter the Sanctuary. Altar Flowers are provided by Janousek Florist and cost $20 a bouquet. The Eternal Candle is $7.50.

Children’s Ministries

Youth Ministries

We’re always looking for volunteers in the church office to serve as ushers and greeters, lead committees, participate in groups and activities, and more. Please speak with a pastor or contact the church office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org, and we’ll help you choose a volunteer opportunity that meets your needs and schedule.

If the Omaha Public Schools are closed, then the church office will be closed, and all activities at the church will be canceled.

We believe that all are welcome in worship and encourage families to worship together. However, we do provide nursery care at Sunday worship services and many church activities for children aged birth to 3 years old. Our nursery is managed by trained staff and volunteers. If your child wishes to remain in worship, activity bags, children’s bibles, and bulletins are available.
