Global Mission

Our Global Mission Committee is a living testament to our congregation’s core values and far-reaching ministry. With open arms, we extend our love and support to embrace refugee families, offering them a sanctuary of hope and guidance.

As disasters strike, our hearts respond, swiftly offering aid and assistance, knowing that every gesture of kindness emanates from God’s boundless grace. Together, we shine as beacons of compassion, channeling our resources to make a positive impact, driven by our unwavering faith and discipleship.

Alternative Gifts

In 2016, our Global Mission committee celebrated the 13th year of sponsoring alternative gift-giving during Advent. The overwhelming support resulted in a remarkable $19,154 contribution to critical global mission causes. Over the past 12 years, the Alternative Gift program raised a total of $129,492 for vital missions, cementing its significance as an impactful fundraising initiative. Grateful hearts and a united spirit continue to inspire our pursuit as disciples.

Disaster Relief

Kountze members respond generously to the needs of people affected by earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados, and other devastating natural disasters in our country and throughout the world. Haiti earthquake victims by contributing to a special Haiti relief fund. We also encouraged giving to similar funds for victims of the devastating floods in Pakistan and other areas of need around the world.

Missionary Support

Global mission support in the form of prayer, communication, and financial gifts for our missionaries is a continuing priority. Kountze Memorial supports missionaries in various parts of the world and currently provides Global Mission support to the following missionaries: Rev. Chandran Paul Martin, India; Dr. Stephen & Jodi Swanson, Tanzania; Krystle Moraska & Ignacio Madrussan, Argentina; Meghan Brown Saavedra, Mexico; Our sister congregation, the American Church in Berlin.

Quilts for Lutheran World Relief

Our sewing group passionately supports Nebraska Lutheran World Relief, crafting quilts as tokens of warmth and comfort for refugees abroad. Each stitch symbolizes love and solidarity, offering hope amidst displacement. These beautifully crafted quilts adorn the sanctuary, rotunda, and balconies every year on All Saints Sunday.

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA)

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, society, and the world. WELCA Activities Include:
  • Monthly circle meetings for Bible study and fellowship
  • Serving funeral lunches, weddings, anniversaries, and other special events
  • Helping with Lenten and Advent suppers
  • Sewing quilts and preparing school and health kits for Lutheran World Relief
  • Service projects, which involve collecting materials or donating monetarily, such as the Kountze Pantry, Mosaic, Nebraska
  • Lutheran Campus Ministries, Lutheran Family Services, Together Inc., and Nebraska Prison Ministry
  • Supporting Kountze Family Friends with cards and visits
  • Sponsoring a Christmas Tea and Spring Brunch
  • Participating in Lutheran Women of Omaha and Metro East Gatherings of the Nebraska Synod
