Serve in Worship

At Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, we are fortunate to offer a range of service opportunities that allow us to unite in worship. From our committed Acolytes to our caring Flower Delivery volunteers, each volunteer plays a vital role in enriching our congregation’s experience.

Acolytes

For over 75 years, young people have served as acolytes in worship through the Order of Saint John, providing leadership for our worship experience. Acolytes carry the processional cross, torches, banners, and gospel book in the processions, light candles, and assist the pastors at baptisms and Holy Communion.

Altar Guild

Members care for the vestments, vessels, paraments, linens, and elements used in our worship services. They prepare for Holy Communion and Baptisms, clean the brass, silver, and gold altar ware, change the paraments to reflect the appropriate liturgical color and season and launder altar linens and albs.

Communion Assistants

Trained leaders assist the pastors in the distribution of the sacrament at the Lord’s Supper.

Lectors

Trained lectors read the Old Testament and New Testament lessons at the Eucharist, lead the responsive reading of the Psalm when it is not sung, and read select scripture lessons at special services.

Sound/Media

Volunteers stage and monitor our weekly live television broadcast and live-streaming, utilizing computers and audiovisual equipment, including cameras, sound systems, and lighting sources, as well as assisting with audiovisual needs throughout the church for special events and activities.

Ushers

Ushers serve by greeting and welcoming members and visitors as they arrive for worship, providing them with bulletins, assisting with seating if necessary, gathering the gifts to bring forward at the offertory, guiding worshippers to Holy Communion, and standing ready to assist where necessary.
